Giethoorn – Town Having No Roads

Giethoorn – village located in the Dutch (Netherlands) province of Overijssel. It is known to be NetherlandsVenice of the North” or “Venice of the Netherlands“. It became famous, after 1958, when the Dutch film maker Bert Haanstra made his well-known comedy “Fanfare” there. The town having no roads in it and all the transport was done by water over one of the many canals. The lakes in Giethoorn were formed by peat unearthing. Only few cycling tracks are there. People are always greeted and encouraged to rent an electric and quiet “Whisper Boat” to discover this little piece of heaven on earth. With having population of only around 300, one of the beautiful place for the travellers to come and enjoy.
