Guimarães Castle/Castle of Guimarães/Castelo de Guimarães – A castle located in the Guimarães city of Portugal. Guimarães is the historical city of Portugal. It is said that it is the first city of Portugal. The Castle has been categorized as one of the New Portuguese Seven Wonders. The Castle of Guimarães was built as a national symbol and known as “Cradle of Portugal”. The construction of the Castle of Guimarães was ordered and signed in the year 958. In the courtyard there were four guard towers and dungeon significantly increased in size. All that remained to this day and is open to tourists. The magnificence of Guimaraes castle and the nearby historic centers was acknowledged in 2001 by UNESCO that elected the place as World Heritage.
