Lake Assal or Salt Lake – A crater lake situated in the Djibouti, Ethiopia. The Lake is one of the Saltiest Lakes in the world. Extreme heat and strong winds fuel rapid evaporation leave a bathtub ring of minerals around the lake’s shore. Salty becomes granular crystals by crystal at the tip of the sea spray. Assal Lake is situated on 155 meters below sea level. It is also the lowest point of Africa and third lowest in the world. The Lake is an aquatic desert enclosed by dormant volcanoes and black lava fields. It can be reached by less than 2 hour drive on pretty good road from Djibouti City. The scenery alongside the way is nice.
