The Road of Death – A Death Road located in the North Yungas province of Bolivia also known as Yungas Road. It is one of the “Most Dangerous Roads of the World”. The road has a narrow twisting down from a height of 3600 meters above sea level. It is estimated to be as 200-300 travelers are killed yearly along the road or one vehicle every two weeks. It is one of the rare routes that connect the Amazon Rainforest region of Bolivia, or Yungas, to its capital city. On July 24, 1983, a bus swung off the Yungas Road into a canyon, killing more than 100 travelers in what is said to be Bolivia’s Worst Road Accident. Walking along the narrow path only twelve feet wide safely requires mastering the helm of the vehicle and beat the terrible fear of dying in a precipitous drop from the slippery path, built in the 30s by Paraguayan prisoners of war, to over three thousand 600 meters above sea level.
