The Sunken Alcove Garden is very unique and beautiful garden in NewZealand. The Gardens was formed in the 1960s. The Sunken Garden is a ‘hidden treasure’ because of the sited below road level, it offers a sense of calmness and separation from its urban surrounds. The garden was upgraded in mid-2001. Flights of steps were created between pohutakawa trees neighboring the street side footpath to lead down into the garden. The pond was made more noticeable to pedestrians, and that has improved its value as a focal point in this passive reserve.
