The Belgrade Fortress was constructed as a defensive structure on a edge overlooking the convergence of the Sava and the Danube rivers. It was built during the period from the 2nd to the 18th century. Nowadays the fortress is a unique and exclusive museum of the history of Belgrade. The Fortress is made up of the Belgrade Fortress itself, divided into the Upper and Lower Town that is (Gornji/Donji Grad), and the Kalemegdan Park. Around this defense fortification on the hill above the Sava and Danube confluence, there is an ancient settlement of Singidunum grew up, afterward to become the Slav settlement of Belgrade. The Belgrade Fortress has been destroyed and rebuilt on many occasions. The view from fortress is superb. It is very interesting with it’s chapels and military museum. The place is one of the best preserved in Europe.
