The Hotel Del Salto is located on the edge is one of the unique buildings of Columbia. Its location makes it exceptional and striking. The hotel Del Salto was previously built as a mansion in 1923. The architect who added the magnificence to the design of the Mansion was Carlos Arturo Tapias. The exterior was designed by using French architecture. In 1928 the Mansion was rebuilt as a luxurious Hotel Del Salto. The major reason to build this hotel was to attract the well-off travellers visiting the amazing Tequendama Falls.
Today this hotel has turned into an abandoned and spooky on but still attracts thousands of tourists. The tourists who visit Columbia majorly admire the 157 meter (515 feet) tall waterfall, located about 30 km southwest of Bogotá (Colombia Capital). This Hotel adds an additional charm for the tourists to visit Tequendama Falls. The hotel was called haunted by the local people. The reason behind haunted story was that the spot was used by local people to commit suicide after the closing of this hotel in 90s. After the loss of tourists due to polluted water issue, the government of Columbia started water cleaning programs. The reforms restored the lost tourists. The Mansion was reopened as a Museum by The Institute of Natural Sciences of the National University of Colombia and the Ecological Farm Foundation of Porvenir. The first exhibit was titled “Caverns, ecosystems of the subterranean world”.
