Kansai International Airport is one of the most challenging projects for the human mind as the location was unusual and diverges from the ideal requirements e.g. spacious flat ground, favourable wind and great visibility. On the other hand the engineers had to take into account the unstable seabed, floods, sinking, cyclones, earthquakes and other challenges regarding safety and stability.

Although, In Japan land is scarce but as it is said that the “Necessity is the mother of all inventions”, Japanese solved the problem with the help of an Italian architect Renzo Piano, of building an Airport in Osaka by utilizing a land (artificial island) 2.5 miles long and 1.6 miles wide at a distance of 3 miles off the shore. The Colossal structure of Kansai International Airport started in the year 1987 and by 1994 (opening year) the airport was functioning with jumbo jets landing on the runway. The Kansai International Airport was restructured and second runway of 4,000 m × 60 m (13,123 ft × 197 ft) was opened on 2 August 2007.
