It is said that during the construction of Tower of Pisa the architects and builders neglected the fact that the foundation is being laid on the unstable subsoil. Very soon after the construction of first two floors the Tower of Pisa leaned toward one side. The soft ground could not support the weight of the tower. The halt in construction favoured the hardening of land otherwise the tower could have collapsed. The Tower of Pisa was constantly leaning till 1990, when the government took the notice and started working on the stabilization and corrective reconstruction of tower. In 2001 and 2008 the surface was levelled from the high end by taking out 38 cubic meters and 70 metric tons of soil respectively. The tilt was decreased from 5.5 to 3.99 degrees and the Tower of Pisa was declared as stable for next 300 years.
