The Battery Park is a recreational zone of 25-acre (10 ha) located in the premises of New York City on the southern tip of Manhattan Island. The name was given to the place after the placement of artillery batteries. The placement of batteries took place in the early developing years of the New York City. The amusing Battery Park in 1982 gained importance as a being declared as a new entry in the list of “group of historic waterfront sites”.
The Battery Park is famous for its sculptures and amazing location. Some of the sculptures include statue of John Ericsson (a Swedish-born engineer designer of the ironclad Monitor, 1860), statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano (an Italian explorer who worked for the king of France) and several other sculptures of famous personalities. The Battery Park also has several memorials including The Sphere, Hope Garden, flagpole, East Coast Memorial, American Merchant Mariners’ Memorial and Other memorials.
You can view the sky scrapers and skyline from the Battery Park. The Battery Park serves as a great site to see statue of liberty and World Trade Center. There is also a great path for cycling along the West-side green-way. The park is well maintained and gives a great view. There are several working subway stations under the park i.e. Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel, Battery Park Underpass and Bowling Green subway station. The nearby Staten Island Ferry station is the place to book a seat in the ferry to access the Statue of Liberty from the Battery Park.
Another attraction of the Battery Park is the Castle Garden and the oldest man made wall in Manhattan. The wall is recently discovered in 2005 and said to be the oldest by the archaeologists who have examined it. The wall is said to be 200 years old. The other interesting attractions of the Battery Park include the Four walls and over 250,000 individual artifacts. It is said that the artifacts were found in the excavation of the South Ferry subway station.

The park is a calm place to visit with not much of a crowd especially on week days. Nicely kept lawns, nice weather and great view all add a lot to the joyful experience of the tourists.
