A gift of Infanta Luisa Fernanda, Duchess of Montpensier to the people of Seville, Maria Lusia Park is a beautiful place to sit quietly and listen to the humming of birds and the faint clip clop of the horse carriages. Today it is a vast park with hundreds of visitors those stroll around and relax in its calming surroundings.
The land for the Maria Luisa Park was donated by Duchess Infanta Luisa Fernanda in 1893. Some of the gardens before being added to the park were included in the territory of Palace of San Telmo. The Maria Luisa Park was embellished by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, a famous designer of his times.
The marvellous work of Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier included the rearrangement of the Maria Luisa Park which was not an easy task. The southern end of city Seville was modified in order to expand the gardens and the grand boulevards of the park. The Center, Parque de María Luisa, follows Moorish paradisical style in it’s built along with lined fountains, pavilions, walls, clear ponds and benches.
The Maria Luisa Park also serves as a botanical garden as it is filled with lush plantings of palms, orange trees, Mediterranean pines, and stylized flower beds of many other species. The educational panels help the visitors in understanding the native of exotic plant species. The park is adorned with the birds humming and flying. Doves, parrots, swans and ducks can easily be spotted in the park.
Other than the green side, Maria Luisa Park is also known for its monuments. The monuments in the park are Fountain of Lions (Fuente de los Leones), Fuente de las Ranas (Fountain of the frogs), the Water-lily Pool (Estanque de los Lotos), Monument to Miguel de Cervantes and Monument to Gustavo Adolfo Becquer.
