Historic Lampang City – Thailand

Ancient Lampang city is one such place that you might have missed on your first trip through Thailand. Lampang is located in the north of Thailand. It is situated about an hour’s drive from Chiang Mai. It is the capital of the province of Lampang. The city is especially popular among Thai tourists.

Lampang city can be reached with daily flights from Bangkok, but more obvious is visiting Lampang during a bus ride to the north, or from Chiang Mai. There are local bus connections to Chiang Mai (100km), Lamphun (52 km), Phitsanulok (4 hours) from Bangkok.

The city was inhabited in the 7th century by the Chinese who first came and settled in the Wang River. The city has many historic temples from 13th to 18th century. The city is surrounded by mountain chains.

You can tour Lampang city in Thailand where by horse ride and carriage. Not to miss the market on Tung Kwai, where all kinds of products are traded in the jungle, like orchids, insects and snakes.
